Sum/Some of me (Short film)

"Sum/Some of Me" is an impactful short film crafted by Harrison First and directed by Jean Luc Mwepu, delving into the profound question of when appreciation crosses the line into appropriation. While the film strikes a delicate balance between directness and occasional moments of humor, its underlying theme remains undeniably serious. Beyond cultural appropriation, the narrative highlights the pervasive issue of taking without giving back, encompassing not only cultures but also the environment, industries, and individuals. In essence, our interactions with the world can be distilled into a series of transactions involving both taking and receiving, forming an intrinsic push and pull dynamic. Thus, it becomes imperative for us to pause and reflect upon the nature of what we take and what we offer in return before we take action.
